Eric's First Flight

Once there was a little bird named Eric. He was a little bird, never left his nest before. One day he thought to himself "I wish I could fly like my Mommy and Daddy". He saw them do it, so he thought he could try. He jumped out of the nest, and flapped, and flapped, and flapped his wings with all his might. But still, he was a little bird and his momenteum wasn't strong enough. He fell to the ground, despondent and anguished. "I give up", he thought. "My parents will be back soon," he thought. "If they find me down here, they'll be mad. And the only way back up is to fly. I'll have to try again." He jumped and flapped, jumped and flapped, jumped and flapped. "It's no use", he thought. "I have to start at a height." Then he saw it. Three mushrooms in a row that formed steps. He couldn't reach the third step, or the second. But he could just reach the first. He tried to fly off it, but no. He tried the second, but no. Then he hopped onto the third. Yes! It was high enough. He jumped off and flapped his wings. His eyes were closed. He opened his eyes to see what positiion on the ground he was. But he wasn't on the ground, he was airborne! Hooray, he shouted gleefully. I'm flying! And that was the story of Eric's First Flight.
