Linda Leavitt

First Time

oblivious
to the cold,
stark white,
and very public
surroundings

spread-eagled
on her back
and screaming
with pure,
unbounded ecstasy

she is tasting,
sensating,
believing
that this moment
is hers and hers alone--
as if she invented

making angels in the snow.

Just got my tax check!
Let's go to Bermuda

Imagine how fast
it will process my files

Imagine pink beaches
extending for miles

How do we buy it--
by mail or retail?

How do we get there--
fly or set sail?

Can't wait to gaze upon
my new cathode screen

Can't wait to gaze upon
violet sunset serene

With infinite color
my graphics will thrive

With infinite color
the sea is alive

(But it seems my tax check
is less than expected

the discussion is over
my wants go neglected)

Linda Leavitt, editor of this illustrious ezine, devotes her days to her job as a graphic designer/editor and the rest of her life is unevenly divided between her daughter, husband, cat, friends, and all other assorted causes du jour. Her poetry has been published on line in Netgazettes Poetry Magazine and in a few small literary journals, such as Medicinal Purposes. "Sleep," says Linda "is way over rated."
