A Note from the Editor. . .Welcome to the (sort of) February issue of The Free Zone. In the past month we were simply overwhelmed with submissions and, since the day job (the one that pays) was so persistently busy as well, it took a lot of extra sweat-hours to get this issue "to press." The effort has paid off -- you'll find an incredible, eclectic mix of original work on these pages, by 50-year-old poets and 10-year-old writers from Jakarta, Indonesia to St. Louis, Missouri. Hey -- is The Free Zone gaining international fame? I hope so! This month we chose a featured poet, Doug Tanoury, because his work is so prolific and inspiring. When asked how he writes as much and and well as he does, Doug replies, "I get inspired when I pick up a menu in a chinese restaurant. However, I write most of my work in periods of calm and quiet. I get inspired everywhere. It is a type of vision. Poetry is not outside me, it is inside me. Where ever I go there it is." Another "must-read," especially for those who appreciate sci-fi, is Brigitte Darcel's "The Pristine Warriors," a novel in progress. If all goes well, we'll be presenting Part 2 in a month or so. The Free Zone is an on-going, completely profitless enterprise, which seeks to showcase the best poetry and creative writing that the web (and perhaps the world) has to offer. Submissions are always welcome, as are opinions (please be kind but honest--creative egos are so fragile). Comments can be sent directly to the authors--email links or contact information appear on each page. PLEASE NOTE that all work published on this site is the sole property of the individual author and may in no way be copied or reprinted without the express permission of said author.
